Biography
MOURAD FOUAD: SURREALIST PAINTER
Mourad Fouad is an Egyptian-Canadian artist born in 1975, whose work is a continuous and striking exploration of surrealism. His initial training in architecture and urban planning in Cairo gives his canvases a structural mastery and a sense of perspective that transcend the apparent chaos of dreamlike imagery.
His immersion in art began very early. At the age of 13, he began drawing and painting, holding his first exhibition at just 14 years old. During his university studies in architecture and urban planning, he worked for renowned Egyptian galleries to finance his academic path, specializing in classical realism. It was after obtaining his degrees, while seeking to explore different currents of modern art, that he discovered surrealism in 1999.
This encounter acted as a true revelation: surrealism appeared to him as a revolutionary world where he could manipulate reality at will. A universe without limits other than those he imposes on himself, where his imagination is the only rule. In 2000, he held his first solo surrealism exhibition in a Cairo workshop. This movement is now the prism through which he confronts the profound questions of existence and awakens critical awareness of the issues of our time.
Settled in Quebec since 2016, Mourad Fouad briefly explored realism and impressionism in 2017 and 2018 before returning with force and depth to his surrealist practice. He deploys a universe where reality bends to dreams, using techniques to create works that capture attention and provoke complex, sometimes unsettling, emotions in the viewer.
Today, traditional surrealism is becoming increasingly rare. In this context, each canvas by Mourad Fouad constitutes a true project, mobilizing time, energy and meticulous attention to detail. His practice requires deep technical mastery, advanced symbolic reflection and a strong personal vision, which explains why his output remains deliberately limited. In a world where contemporary art often favors speed, interactivity or digital technologies, his work stands out even more for its depth, singularity and total commitment.
In his works, he deploys his method by employing illusions, unreal atmospheres, juxtapositions of incongruous elements, distortions of reality and the subversion of visual conventions, inviting the public to in-depth reflection on complex and delicate themes.
Fouad is driven by the deep conviction that art is a powerful tool to raise awareness and encourage action for a better world. His canvases are thus visual manifestos that address environmental protection, the fight against social injustice, or the promotion of peace and intercultural understanding.
He shapes his creations with vivid colors and striking contrasts. This vibrant use aims to enhance the visual and emotional impact of his works, allowing each composition to open a window onto the world's emergencies. Through his surrealist universe, he invites the viewer to see differently, to feel, and to question the world in order to revive the part of humanity that unites us.
